Grassroots
Football is for everyone
And can be played everywhere and anywhere.
Football is a school of life
That is also FUN.
Let the kids be kids!
In describing ‘Grassroots’ soccer FIFA states:
Football can be played by everyone regardless of age, gender, religion, ethnic or social background and level of fitness.
CBSC follows Ontario Soccer Grassroots Standards

CBSC Grassroots Development Program U7-U12
- The CBSC Grassroots Development Program is open to all players from age U7 to U12. This program is directed and mentored by Gerald Steele, our Technical Director Jr. Division, in conjunction with Elton Ali, the club Technical Director and John Hendriks, the President of CBSC.
- All coaches involved in training and league and Festival games are appropriately qualified. All are certified coaches as per the requirements of festivals and league games in which they coach, even on occasion surpassing the stated requirements. At present several of our Grassroots Development Program coaches are undertaking the Ontario Soccer ‘C’ Licence course.
- CBSC often exceeds the recommended coach/ player ratio. This is done, on occasion, because we just simply want to have more certified coaches on hand. But it also is achieved by recruiting young, aspiring, not-yet-certified coaches and even using enthusiastic parents.
- While respecting family, school, other sports, and other activities, the club expects the player to train and play on a year-round basis. The cycle is paused for several weeks the end of the winter and summer seasons. As well, CBSC usually ceases operations during long weekends and other holiday occasions.
- It is our aim to help all players to attain the competency which will enable them to participate at the level of soccer to which they aspire. CBSC does this through following the Long Term Player Development (LTPD) model as well as heeding such guidelines as those of Transformational Coaching recommendations, the Ontario Soccer Development Model and the ideas in the 4 Corner Model.
Grassroots Coaching Aids:
Below are 4x10-week season plans covering U4s/U5s, U6s/U7s, U8s/U9s, U10s/U11s. These documents are not prescriptive. They are suggestions/ templates only and can readily be edited by the coaches to suit their player’s needs.
CBSC does not believe that it is the job of a TD or staff coaches to constantly be designing session plans for coaches. CBSC coaches are experienced and well-qualified. What the coaches need from the club is a strong philosophy of coaching and a skeletal structure of which aspects of the game should be covered in a given period.
